It was 120th anniversary.....:)

wheeee.......
It was the 120th anniversarry for Tchaikovsky's Christmas-Based ballet, The Nutcracker

Well.....It was 1st performed in St Petersburg on December 18,1892....
The original production was not deemed a success but the 20-min suite tat Tchaikovsky extracted frm the ballet was. The complete Nutcracker has proved extremely popular since the late 1960s.
The Nutcracker was especially popular during Christmas Time, it is performed by nyerous ballet companies around the world.
Tchaikovsky's score has become one of his most famous compositions, in particular the pieces featured in the suite. The score is noted for its use of the celesta, an instrument that the somposer had already employed in his much lesser known symphonic ballad The Voyevoda. The most famous dance is probably the Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy

This full video of a performance of the Nutcracker begins with an explanation of the story of  Herr Drosselmeyer's bid to rescue his newphew Hans Peter frm the MOuse King and his goddaughter Clara's fantastical journey through the Land of Snow to the Kingdom of Sweets.
